Job summary

Valterra Platinum is seeking an Occupational Hygiene Assistant to support the team at the Mototolo Complex. You will assist the Occupational Hygienist in maintaining ventilation and hygiene programmes and help ensure a safe, healthy work environment for staff.

Key duties include implementing legal and internal standards, carrying out hygiene inspections, risk assessments and supporting 6–12 month planning. The role reports to the Shaft Ventilation Engineer and requires relevant certificates and

Qualifications

• Matric and technical certificates in ventilation/occupational hygiene.
• Certificates in ventilation and OH measurements.
• Advanced OH qualifications are advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Ensure legal requirements, group standards and policies are adhered to.
• Maintain ventilation and OH strategies and systems.
• Conduct risk assessments and hygiene measurements; participate in audits.
• Perform daily ventilation and OH inspections and record findings.
• Report findings and recommend interventions.
• Assist in 6–12 month ventilation and OH planning.
• Contribute to SHE objectives and targets.

Job Description

The Occupational Hygiene Assistant is responsible for assisting the Occupational Hygienist in maintaining Ventilation and Occupational Hygiene systems and programmes and provides his / her immediate supervisor with information and to ensure a safe and healthy work environment.

Qualifications

Key responsibilities of this role are:

Ensure that legal requirement, group standard and policies are adhered to

Maintain Ventilation and Occupational Hygiene strategies and systems

Conduct risk assessments, occupational hygiene measurements and participate in audits

Conduct daily ventilation and occupational hygiene inspections and record findings

Report findings and recommend appropriate interventions

Assist in short term ventilation and occupational hygiene planning (6-12 months)

Contribute to the achievement of the SHE objectives and targets of the Operation

This role is at C2 level reporting to the Shaft Ventilation Engineer

• Matric
• Certificate in Basic Ventilation and Occupational Hygiene measurements
• COM Intermediate Certificate in Mine Environmental Control.
• Advantageous: Registration with the South African Institute of Occupational Hygiene (SAIOH)
• Advantageous : Occupational Health Risk Assessment qualification

Experience:

• Experience of at least 2 year in the Mining and / or Refining environment of which Practical experience of at least 1 years in the Ventilation and Occupational Hygiene field.

Additional requirements:

• Computer literacy in MS Office, SAP, and other specialised technical programs.
• Valid driving licence Code 8
