Job summary

Valterra Platinum Limited is seeking Shift Supervisors for Mototolo Borwa. The roles focus on safe execution, production targets, housekeeping and supervision of support functions.

Three positions are available on a 12-month FTC basis, with consideration given to Mototolo Business Partners. Requirements include Grade 10, relevant underground blasting/rock breaking certificates, a Shift Supervisor certificate, and at least 3 years as a mechanised miner and 3+ years as a Shift Supervisor.

Qualifications

• Grade 10 and safety-focused training required.
• National Certificate NQF Level 3 Rock Breaker or Valid Blasting Certificate for underground (Hard Rock).
• Shift Supervisor Certificate preferred.
• 3 years’ experience as a mechanised miner and 3+ years as mechanised Shift Supervisor (advantageous).

Responsibilities

• Ensure the maintenance of proper discipline of all persons under your charge.
• Daily on-the-job coaching and on-site training sessions recorded in the logbook.
• Provide and maintain a safe working environment for employees within your area.
• Use the Risk Matrix in the logbook to assess and reduce risks.
• Empower staff to stop any work if Occupational Health and Safety is at risk per MHSA section 23.
• Assess training, knowledge and skills before assigning tasks.
• Assist in safe operation and running of machinery and equipment in your area.

Job Description

Number of positions: 3 (12 months FTC)

Location of positions: Mototolo Borwa

In line with business requirements, consideration will be given exclusively to Mototolo Business Partners.

As Shift Supervisor Mining you will focus on safe quality of work, achieving of production targets, housekeeping, supervising and coordinating support functions. Below are some of the key responsibilities critical to the role.

Key Responsibilities Of This Role Are

• Ensure the maintenance of proper discipline of all persons under your charge.
• Daily on-the-job coaching and on-site training sessions should be conducted and captured in the logbook.
• Provide and maintain a working environment that is safe and without undue risk to the health of employees within your area of responsibility.
• Make use of the latest Risk Matrix provided in the logbook to assess and eliminate or reduce risks
• Ensure that you and the persons under your charge are empowered to stop any working place when the Occupational Health and/or Safety of any such persons are endangered in terms of section 23 of the MHSA.
• Consider an employee’s training and capability, knowledge and skill in respect of Health and Safety before allowing such person to continue with his work or before assigning specific or specialized tasks to that employee.
• Assist in the control over the proper safe operation and running of machinery and equipment in your area of responsibility.

This role is at C5 level reporting to the Mine Overseer.

Qualifications

• Grade 10
• National Certificate NQF Level 3 Rock Breaker or Valid Blasting Certificate for underground (Hard Rock)
• Shift Supervisor Certificate

Experience

• 3 years’ experience as a mechanised miner
• At least 3 years’ experience as a Mechanised Shift Supervisor (Shift Boss) - advantageous

Additional Requirements

• Computer literacy
• First Aid Certificate
• Valid certificate of fitness for underground work
