Job summary

Implats in Rustenburg (North West, SA) seeks an experienced supervisor to lead underground operations safely while achieving production targets and enforcing health and safety standards on-site.

You will ensure compliance with DMRE, monitor blasting, ventilation and rock support, and guide mining personnel in safe practices. Ideal candidates hold Grade 12, NQF4, and relevant shift supervision certs with basic computer skills.

• Demonstrates understanding of DMRE legislation and compliance.
• Demonstrates understanding of legal terms related to rock breaking.
• Describes environmental factors of ventilating underground for safety.
• Understands safe blasting in underground hard rock.
• Understands principles of support in underground hard rock.

Responsibilities

• Ensure compliance to Health and Safety Act requirements as per policy.
• Achieve planned production targets through effective planning, leadership and quality assurance in mining activities.
• Manage mining personnel with discipline, motivation and development.
• Manage and maintain physical resources allocated by management.
• Manage and control financial resources allocated to the section.
• Generate, submit and complete administrative documentation in a timely manner.
• Ensure two-way communication within the department on policies, safety issues and day-to-day arrangements.
• Adhere to educational prerequisites and company policies.

Job description

To ensure the production targets are achieved safely through effective management of people.

COMPETENCIES:

• Demonstrating knowledge pertaining to basic health and safety principles in the workplace is essential.
• Demonstrating a basic understanding of the causes of Falls of Ground (FOG) is essential.
• Demonstrating an understanding of legislation and compliance with the DMRE is essential.
• Demonstrating an understanding of legal terms and requirements related to rock breaking is essential.
• Describing the basic environmental factors of ventilating an underground working place to ensure a safe and healthy working environment is essential.
• Demonstrating understanding of the importance of safe and efficient blasting processes in an underground hard rock environment is essential.
• Demonstrating knowledge and understanding of the principles of support in an underground hard rock environment is essential.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:

• Ensure compliance to managerial and Health and Safety Act legislative requirements as stipulated in 2.15.1 appointment.
• Achieve planned production target through effective planning, organising, leading and control as well as quality assurance in mining activities.
• Effectively manage human resources by discipline, guiding, motivating and developing of his or her mining personnel.
• Effectively manage and maintain all physical resources allocated to him/her by management.
• Effectively manage and control the financial resources allocated to him/her section.
• Timeously generate, submit and complete all administrative documentation required for this position.
• Ensure effective two-way communication within the department in terms of policies, procedures, health and safety related issues and any other day to day working arrangements
• Grade 12 or NQF 4 equivalent is essential.
• 3 - 5 Years’ experience as a Production Shift Supervisor is essential (External) or
• At least 5 years’ experience as a Production Miner with clean record is essential (Internal)
• Shift Supervisor certificate is essential.
• Basic computer literacy is essential.
• Valid medical certificate or medically fit in order to obtain such a certificate is essential .
