Job summary

Kontak is seeking a Safety & Training Officer to support the Group Head of SHEQ in Meyerton. The role blends 70% safety/compliance work with 30% training responsibilities across inspections, risk assessments, incident investigations, audits and workplace training.

Requirements include 1+ year in a SHEQ/SAFETY role, safety knowledge, and a valid driver’s license. Salary is R15 000–R18 000 CTC per month with medical aid contribution. This permanent position offers broad operational exposure.

Qualifications

• 1 or more years’ practical experience within a Safety, SHEQ or SHERQ role.
• Practical understanding of workplace health and safety requirements.
• Experience with safety administration, compliance records and reporting.
• Valid driver’s licence and own transport as occasional travel will be required.
• Strong organisational and administrative skills.
• Ability to work independently.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Safety qualification such as SAMTRAC, SHEMTRAC, NOSA or equivalent preferred but not essential.
• Previous logistics, transport, warehousing or similar operational experience advantageous.
• Workplace training experience advantageous.
• First Aid and Fire Fighting certification advantageous.
• At least 1 year’s exposure to ISO 14001, SQS or similar quality/environmental standards advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Conduct workplace, yard, warehouse and operational safety inspections.
• Monitor compliance with SHEQ/SHERQ policies, procedures and safe working practices.
• Assist with risk assessments, corrective actions and incident, accident and near‑miss investigations.
• Maintain safety records, registers, checklists and compliance documentation.
• Support toolbox talks, safety briefings and awareness initiatives.
• Monitor PPE compliance and safety relating to loading, offloading, warehousing and vehicle movement areas.
• Assist with emergency preparedness and safety drills.
• Support internal and external SHEQ audits and corrective actions.
• Assist with environmental and quality compliance requirements.
• Maintain employee training records and training matrices.
• Coordinate safety, operational and customer site‑specific SHEQ training.
• Conduct internal safety training where appropriately qualified.
• Assist with employee inductions and refresher training.
• Coordinate First Aid, Fire Fighting and other safety‑related training.
• Provide administrative support to the SHERQ department.
