Placements24 in South Africa seeks a Senior Wellsite Geologist to join its on-site drilling team in Klerksdorp. You will provide real-time geological supervision of drilling operations, guiding formation evaluation and well-path decisions to optimize hydrocarbon recovery.

The role requires 6+ years of wellsite experience, strong sedimentology/stratigraphy/structural geology knowledge, and hands-on interpretation of wireline logs, geochemistry and core analyses.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 6 years of experience as a Wellsite Geologist in oil and gas.
• Strong knowledge of sedimentology, stratigraphy and structural geology.
• Proficiency in interpreting wireline logs, geochemical data and core analysis.
• Experience with drilling fluid logging and basic geochemistry.

Responsibilities

• Provide geological oversight during drilling operations, guiding objectives and targets.
• Log and analyze drilling cuttings, cores and fluid data in real time.
• Perform formation evaluation using wireline logs, mud logs and seismic data.
• Recommend well path adjustments, casing points and mud weight changes.
• Communicate critical geological information to the drilling team and onshore support.
• Prepare end-of-well geological reports summarising findings and performance.

About the Role

Our client is seeking a meticulous and experienced Senior Wellsite Geologist to join their exploration and drilling team in Klerksdorp. In this demanding role, you will be responsible for the real-time geological supervision of drilling operations, making critical decisions regarding formation evaluation and well path adjustments. You will ensure that subsurface objectives are met safely and efficiently, providing essential geological insights directly from the rig site. This position is crucial for optimizing drilling efficiency and maximizing hydrocarbon recovery in our challenging projects within the oil and gas industry.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide geological oversight and guidance during drilling operations, ensuring adherence to geological targets.
• Log and analyze drilling cuttings, core samples, and drilling fluid data in real-time.
• Perform formation evaluation using wireline logs, mud logs, and seismic data.
• Make recommendations for well path adjustments, casing points, and mud weight changes.
• Communicate critical geological information and decisions to the drilling team and onshore support.
• Prepare detailed end-of-well geological reports summarizing findings and performance.

Requirements

• Minimum of 6 years of experience as a Wellsite Geologist in the oil and gas sector, preferably with onshore experience.

• Proficiency in interpreting wireline logs, geochemical data, and routine core analysis.
