Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Senior Mining Ventilation Engineer for Randburg, Gauteng to design, implement and optimize underground ventilation networks. You will model airflow, thermal conditions and gas behavior, and lead dust suppression and environmental control initiatives to maintain a safe workplace.

You will collaborate with mine planning, safety and production teams, mentor junior staff, and manage ventilation projects from design through commissioning.

Qualifications

• B.Eng. or B.Sc. in Mining/Mechanical Eng with ventilation specialization.
• 7+ years of underground mine ventilation experience.
• Strong knowledge of ventilation, thermodynamics, and mine gases.
• Proficient in ventilation modeling software (VENTSIM, MineCAD).
• Experience with dust monitoring and control technologies.
• Familiarity with SA mining legislation and safety practices.
• Excellent analytical and project management skills.
• Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
• Experience in Gauteng or similar mining jurisdictions is beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and optimize mine ventilation networks for underground operations.
• Conduct airflow, thermal, and gas modeling to ensure environmental control.
• Develop and manage mine dust suppression and control strategies.
• Perform inspections and audits of ventilation systems and conditions.
• Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
• Investigate and resolve ventilation issues including heat stress and gas contamination.
• Develop and maintain ventilation plans, surveys, and operational reports.
• Collaborate with mine planning, production, and safety departments to integrate ventilation requirements.
• Manage ventilation projects from installation to commissioning.
• Mentor junior ventilation engineers and technicians.
