About the Role

Our client, a prominent civil engineering consultancy with a strong presence in Durban , is actively recruiting a Senior Transport Engineer. This challenging position involves leading the planning, design, and implementation of transportation infrastructure projects, including roads, highways, and public transit systems. You will be instrumental in shaping the future of mobility in the region, working on a variety of impactful projects. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong analytical skills, a deep understanding of traffic engineering principles, and the ability to manage complex projects from inception to completion. This role is ideal for a seasoned professional looking to contribute significantly to the development of KwaZulu-Natal 's transportation network.

Key Responsibilities

Lead the planning and design of transportation infrastructure projects, including highways, intersections, and public transport facilities. Conduct traffic impact studies, capacity analyses, and safety assessments. Develop traffic simulation models and network analyses. Prepare detailed design reports, drawings, and specifications for transportation schemes. Coordinate with government agencies, stakeholders, and other consultants to ensure project success. Manage project teams, timelines, and budgets, ensuring timely and cost-effective delivery. Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior transportation engineers. Stay abreast of the latest advancements in transportation engineering and intelligent transport systems (ITS).

Requirements

BSc or BEng in Civil Engineering, with a specialization in Transportation Engineering. A minimum of 7 years of relevant professional experience in transport planning and design. Professional Engineer (Pr.Eng) registration with ECSA or eligibility. Proficiency in transportation engineering software such as VISSIM, SIDRA INTERSECTION, AutoCAD Civil 3D. Strong understanding of traffic engineering principles, road design standards, and planning methodologies. Experience in project management and leading multidisciplinary teams. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly. Familiarity with South African transport policies and standards is essential. Willingness to work in a hybrid capacity, balancing remote work with office-based collaboration in Durban .
