Job summary

Boardroom Appointments is seeking a Senior IT Systems Administrator for our client in Pretoria. The role emphasizes maintaining highly available Windows and mixed environments, implementing security controls, and managing virtualization and storage platforms.

You will install OS, patch systems, monitor performance, manage access, and ensure governance compliance across the IT stack, including Fortinet firewalls and VMware.

Qualifications

• Fortinet Certified Professional and CompTIA Security+ required.
• 5+ years in system administration across MS and Open-Source environments.
• Experience with server upgrades and downtime avoidance.
• Experience with governance, change and incident management.
• Virtualization and storage/SAN/iSCSI experience.
• Firewall administration experience, including FortiGate.
• Active Directory/LDAP/Azure AD identity management.
• Docker containerization and VMware experience.
• Backup with Commvault; DNS (Bind9/Windows DNS).

Responsibilities

• Install and configure new base operating systems
• Patch operating systems and software
• Manage the availability and performance of systems
• Design and implement methods of upgrading solutions
• Monitor availability and performance
• Access management: Create, modify, and revoke user access control lists
• Implement and maintain a set of general system controls required to provide the necessary assurance to the Governing Authority
• Monitor and manage backups
• Performance and functionality troubleshooting
• Service management
• Security compliance: baselines, anti-virus, anti-malware, access control, auditing
• Monitor, tune, and configure the VMware environment
