Job summary

Africonology in Johannesburg is seeking a Systems Analyst with a strong technical background and banking experience to translate business requirements into detailed system specifications and support delivery of banking technology solutions. You will analyse requirements, produce specifications, review APIs, and collaborate across teams to ensure secure, compliant integrations and smooth deployments.

On-site for a 12-month contract.

Qualifications

• Proven systems analysis experience with a strong technical background.
• Banking or financial services experience is required.
• Strong SQL skills and relational database knowledge.
• Understanding of APIs, web services and integration concepts (REST, SOAP).
• Ability to read code, logs and technical docs.
• Experience creating system specifications and UML diagrams.

Systems Analyst – Strong Technical Background - Banking experience is a must

Location: Johannesburg — On-site
Contract duration: 12 months

We are seeking a technically strong Systems Analyst to translate business requirements into detailed system specifications and support the delivery of banking technology solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Analyse business requirements and assess their impact on applications, interfaces and data flows.
• Produce technical specifications, system models, interface specifications and data mappings.
• Analyse APIs, integrations and system dependencies to define suitable solutions.
• Use SQL to investigate data, validate requirements and troubleshoot system issues.
• Collaborate with business analysts, developers, architects and testers throughout delivery.
• Support system integration testing, UAT, defect resolution and production implementation.
• Ensure solutions align with security, architecture and governance requirements.
• Maintain clear technical documentation and traceability between requirements and delivered functionality.

Required Experience and Skills

• Proven Systems Analysis experience with a strong technical background.
• Experience within banking or financial services.
• Strong SQL skills and understanding of relational databases.
• Solid understanding of APIs, web services and integration concepts, including REST, SOAP and messaging.
• Ability to read and interpret code, application logs and technical documentation.
• Experience producing system specifications, UML diagrams, sequence diagrams and data mappings.
• Understanding of application architecture, the software development lifecycle and Agile delivery.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting and stakeholder communication skills.
• Availability to work on-site in Johannesburg for the 12-month contract.

Qualifications

A relevant qualification in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems or equivalent practical experience.

• Exposure to Java, .NET, microservices, cloud platforms or banking integration environments.
