Placements24 is seeking a Senior Mining Engineer to oversee surface mining operations near Midrand, Gauteng. You will lead planning, execution and management to ensure safety, efficiency and environmental compliance while driving productivity and profitability.

The role requires extensive experience in surface mining, strong leadership, and the ability to work with cutting-edge planning tools and multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-impact projects.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering required; Master's preferred or advantageous.
• 8+ years in surface mining with 3+ years in senior or supervisory roles.
• Proven track record managing large-scale mining projects from inception to completion.
• Expertise in Deswik, Vulcan or similar mine planning software.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement detailed mine plans with short- and long-term production schedules for surface operations.
• Conduct feasibility studies and economic evaluations for new mining projects and expansions.
• Oversee day-to-day mine operations, ensuring efficient extraction and waste removal.
• Mentor and manage a team of mining engineers, geologists and operations staff.
• Ensure strict compliance with health, safety, environmental regulations and policies.
• Monitor mining costs and identify opportunities for efficiency and cost reductions.
• Collaborate with geological and geotechnical teams to optimize mine design and sequencing.
• Utilize mine planning software to enhance operational performance.
• Prepare comprehensive reports on production, safety and environmental performance.
