Job summary

Placements24 seeks a Senior Subsurface Geologist in Sandton, Gauteng, to lead subsurface modeling, seismic interpretation, and reservoir characterization for Oil & Gas projects. You will collaborate with geophysicists, reservoir engineers and petrophysicists to build robust geological models and support field development decisions.

The role requires a Masters and 8+ years in subsurface geology, with a strong track record in interpreting complex data and delivering integrated studies.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Geology, Petroleum Geology or related earth science.
• 8+ years of subsurface geology experience in Oil & Gas.
• Strong seismic interpretation and well log analysis skills.
• Experience building and validating 3D geological models using Petrel/Kingdom/GeoGraphix.
• Excellent analytical and communication abilities; able to mentor junior staff.
• Residency or willingness to relocate to Sandton with hybrid schedule.

Responsibilities

• Develop and refine detailed subsurface geological models integrating seismic, well log, and core data.
• Perform prospect evaluation and play fairway analysis for exploration opportunities.
• Characterize reservoirs, including sequence stratigraphy, sedimentology, and structural interpretation.
• Contribute geological expertise to field development planning and reservoir management.
• Collaborate with geophysicists, reservoir engineers, and petrophysicists to ensure integrated subsurface understanding.
• Interpret well logs, core data, and other subsurface information to define lithology, stratigraphy, and fluid properties.
• Prepare geological reports, presentations, and risk assessments for management and technical teams.
• Mentor junior geologists and support their technical development.
• Stay current with advancements in geological software and methodologies relevant to the Oil & Gas sector.
• Ensure data quality and consistency throughout subsurface studies.
