Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Senior Solar PV Project Manager to lead large-scale solar projects in South Africa, based in Durban. You will drive development through commissioning, coordinating budgets, schedules, procurement, and stakeholder engagement.

The role requires 6+ years PM experience with at least 4 years in solar PV, strong EPC understanding, and leadership capabilities. Travel across SA for project sites is expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field; Master’s or PMP advantageous.
• Minimum of 6 years experience in project management, with at least 4 years in solar PV/renewable energy.
• Strong EPC contract understanding and ability to manage budgets, schedules and resources.

About the Role

Our client, a leading developer and operator in the renewable Energy sector, is seeking a highly experienced Senior Solar PV Project Manager to oversee the execution of large-scale solar photovoltaic projects across South Africa. Based in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal , this role is pivotal in driving projects from development through to commissioning and handover. You will be responsible for managing all aspects of project execution, including planning, budgeting, scheduling, procurement, construction, and stakeholder management. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in managing complex renewable energy projects, a strong understanding of solar PV technology, and exceptional leadership skills. Key Responsibilities

• Manage the full lifecycle of solar PV projects, from site selection and feasibility studies to construction and commissioning.
• Develop and maintain detailed project plans, including scope, schedule, budget, and resource allocation.
• Oversee and coordinate EPC (Engineering, Procurement, Construction) contractors and suppliers.
• Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
• Manage project risks, identify potential issues, and implement mitigation strategies.
• Liaise with clients, government authorities, and other stakeholders to ensure smooth project progression.
• Conduct regular site inspections and progress meetings.
• Manage project documentation, including contracts, permits, and reports.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant health, safety, and environmental regulations.
• Lead and motivate project teams to achieve project objectives.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil) or a related field. A Master's degree or PMP certification is advantageous.
• Minimum of 6 years of experience in project management, with at least 4 years specifically focused on solar PV or renewable energy projects.
• Demonstrated experience in managing projects from inception to completion, with a strong understanding of EPC contracts.
• In-depth knowledge of solar PV technologies, design principles, and installation best practices.
• Proven ability to manage budgets, schedules, and resources effectively.
• Excellent leadership, communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
• Proficiency in project management software (e.g., MS Project, Primavera).
• Strong understanding of South African renewable energy landscape and regulatory requirements.
• Ability to travel as required to project sites across the country.
• Problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to project execution.
