PBT Group is seeking an experienced Senior Scrum Master to support the delivery of strategic technology initiatives within an Agile environment. The successful candidate will facilitate effective team collaboration, promote Agile principles, remove delivery impediments and help teams consistently achieve their sprint and release objectives.

We are particularly interested in candidates with exposure to AI, data ingestion and data warehousing initiatives, as well as experience working with technical teams in complex data and technology environments.

The ideal candidate will be a confident facilitator, an effective coach and a servant leader who can foster accountability, continuous improvement and predictable delivery while ensuring alignment between Agile teams, Product Owners, Project Managers and other stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

• Facilitate Agile ceremonies, including backlog refinement, daily stand-ups, sprint planning, sprint reviews, end-of-sprint demonstrations, retrospectives and Scrum-of-Scrums sessions where required.
• Coach and guide Agile teams in the effective application of Scrum principles, practices and values.
• Promote a culture of collaboration, accountability, transparency, continuous improvement and shared ownership.
• Support teams in achieving sprint goals, maintaining delivery momentum and improving velocity, predictability and workflow.
• Identify, address and remove impediments that affect team performance, escalating issues and external dependencies where necessary.
• Work closely with Product Owners to support backlog prioritisation, scope management, quality and effective delivery planning.
• Collaborate with Project Managers, Programme Managers and stakeholders to maintain alignment with broader programme objectives, delivery milestones and governance requirements.
• Protect the team from uncontrolled changes in priorities and unplanned work that could compromise delivery commitments.
• Facilitate estimation and planning activities for user stories, features, epics and releases.
• Encourage adherence to the Definition of Done and promote quality, technical discipline and efficient delivery practices.
• Monitor team performance, identify opportunities for improvement and facilitate actions to strengthen team dynamics and delivery effectiveness.
• Support constructive conflict resolution and help teams navigate challenges in a collaborative and productive manner.
• Maintain effective communication, reporting and stakeholder engagement throughout the delivery lifecycle.

Essential Requirements

• Proven experience as a Scrum Master within an Agile software development or technology environment.
• Strong understanding of Scrum principles, Agile methodologies and iterative, incremental delivery.
• Demonstrated ability to facilitate Agile ceremonies independently and adapt facilitation techniques to suit team needs.
• Experience coaching teams and individuals in Agile practices, servant leadership and continuous improvement.
• Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across technical and business teams.
• Proven ability to identify and resolve impediments, manage dependencies and address delivery challenges.
• Good understanding of software development processes and DevOps best practices.
• Proficiency in Jira and Confluence.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Advantageous Experience

• Exposure to AI and Artificial Intelligence initiatives.
• Experience supporting data ingestion, data engineering or data warehousing projects.
• Experience working with data-focused technical teams and complex technology delivery environments.
• Previous experience within the insurance industry.
• Experience working within structured project delivery, governance and reporting frameworks.

Contract Details

• Position: Senior Scrum Master
• Contract duration: Initial 12-month contract
• Location: Cape Town, Western Cape (Western Cape-based candidates will be considered, with a preference for Cape Town)
• Engagement: Contract
