Placements24 is seeking an experienced Senior Sanitation Specialist to join our client in Paarl, Western Cape. You will oversee daily sanitation operations across winery facilities, lead a team of technicians, and implement SOPs to ensure strict food safety standards.

The role requires at least 4 years in sanitation within food/beverage or wine production, knowledge of cleaning agents, HACCP/GMP, and strong leadership and communication skills. Flexibility for variable shifts is expected.

About the Role

Our client, a renowned leader in the South African wine industry, is seeking an experienced Senior Sanitation Specialist to join their team in Paarl, Western Cape . This role is integral to maintaining the highest standards of hygiene and cleanliness within their state-of-the-art wineries and associated facilities, ensuring product integrity and compliance with stringent food safety regulations. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of sanitation practices specific to food and beverage production, with a focus on winemaking processes. You will be responsible for overseeing daily sanitation operations, managing a team, and implementing continuous improvement initiatives to uphold the company's reputation for quality.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee and execute daily cleaning and sanitation programs for winery equipment, tanks, production areas, and laboratories.
• Develop, implement, and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for sanitation.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant food safety standards (e.g., HACCP, GFSI requirements) and regulatory guidelines.
• Manage and train a team of sanitation technicians, ensuring they are proficient in procedures and safety protocols.
• Monitor and control the use of cleaning chemicals and sanitizers, ensuring proper dilution and application.
• Conduct regular inspections and audits to verify the effectiveness of sanitation processes.
• Manage inventory of sanitation supplies and equipment, forecasting needs and placing orders.
• Investigate and resolve sanitation deviations or non-compliance issues.
• Collaborate with the Quality Assurance and Production teams to address hygiene-related concerns.

Requirements

• A minimum of 4 years of experience in sanitation, preferably within the food and beverage or wine production industry.
• Proven knowledge of cleaning agents, sanitizers, and sanitation equipment used in beverage production.
• Understanding of HACCP, GMP, and other food safety management systems.
• Experience in supervising or leading a team.
• Strong attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high hygiene standards.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a proactive approach.
• Basic computer literacy for record-keeping and reporting.
