Job summary

Gold1 is seeking a Senior Safety Officer Engineering (Grading C4) to lead safety initiatives in an underground trackless environment. The role requires extensive experience in audits, incident analysis, and risk management under MHSA and ISO 45001 guidelines.

The candidate will drive hazard control programmes, facilitate investigations, and ensure communication of standards across stakeholders. A strong command of Excel, report writing, and multilingual capabilities are expected.

Qualifications

• Grade 10, 11, 12 or equivalent NQF qualifications.
• Engineering Trade Certificate.
• Knowledge and practical experience in SHE system implementation and auditing.
• Knowledge of investigation and auditing systems.
• Knowledge of risk assessments and risk management.
• Proficient in English and other official languages.
• Must have a valid driver’s licence.
• South African Citizenship.
• Clear Criminal Record.

Responsibilities

• Self-driven and disciplined.
• Conduct health and safety audits in the workplace and give remedial actions where required.
• Identify, analyse, and evaluate hazardous conditions and practices.
• Participate in developing hazard control programmes.
• Measure and evaluate the effectiveness of hazard control programmes.
• Analyse incidents and non-conformances to identify deficiencies and contributing factors in the SHE management.
• Facilitate investigations.
• Facilitate and participate in SHE meetings.
• Distribute standards and procedures to stakeholders.
• Perform all health and safety-related duties in the mine per Gold1 Group Limited standards.
• Adhere to MHSA standards and Gold1’s safety motto: 'Nothing is so important that it cannot be done safe'

SENIOR SAFETY OFFICER ENGINEERING (Grading C4)

Qualifying Criteria

• Grade 10, 11, 12 or equivalent NQF qualifications
• Engineering Trade Certificate
• Metallurgical plant experience will be advantageous.
• Minimum 5 years’ previous experience as a safety officer, having worked in an underground trackless environment, will be advantageous
• Computer literacy (MS packages with emphasis on Excel)
• Must have good report writing skills.
• Must be in the position of COMSOC I & II
• Knowledge and practical experience in SHE system implementation and auditing
• Knowledge of relevant legislation, mine standards and procedures (ISO 45001)
• Knowledge of investigation and auditing systems
• Knowledge of risk assessments and risk management
• Proficient in English and any other of the 11 official languages
• Must have a valid driver's licence.
• South African Citizenship
• Clear Criminal Record
