About the Role

Our client, a rapidly expanding logistics company, is seeking a strategic and results-oriented Senior Route Manager to optimize their delivery networks. This is a fully remote position, ideal for an experienced professional who can analyze complex routing data and implement efficient solutions from anywhere. Based remotely but serving operations originating from Paarl, Western Cape , you will be responsible for designing, managing, and continuously improving delivery routes to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and ensure timely deliveries. Your expertise in route planning software, understanding of transportation dynamics, and strong analytical skills will be critical to success. This role offers significant autonomy and the opportunity to make a substantial impact on our client's operational excellence in a remote-first environment.

Key Responsibilities

Develop, implement, and refine optimized delivery routes for a diverse fleet, focusing on efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and timely service. Analyze route performance data, including mileage, fuel consumption, and delivery times, to identify areas for improvement. Utilize advanced route planning software and tools to model and simulate different routing scenarios. Collaborate with dispatch and fleet management teams to ensure the effective execution of planned routes. Identify potential risks and challenges within the route network and develop proactive mitigation strategies. Stay abreast of industry best practices and emerging technologies in route optimization and logistics. Prepare regular reports on route efficiency, cost savings, and performance metrics for senior management. Provide guidance and support to junior route planners or dispatchers as needed. Ensure compliance with all relevant transportation regulations and company policies. Continuously seek opportunities to enhance customer satisfaction through improved delivery performance.

Requirements

A Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Industrial Engineering, Geography, or a related field. Minimum of 6 years of experience in route planning, optimization, or transportation management. Demonstrated expertise in using sophisticated route planning and optimization software (e.g., PTV, RouteXL, Google Maps API). Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data sets. Excellent understanding of logistics operations, vehicle constraints, and traffic patterns. Proven ability to work independently and manage projects effectively in a remote setting. Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, to present findings and recommendations clearly. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel for data analysis and reporting. Experience in the South African transport and logistics sector is highly preferred. A proactive and detail-oriented approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement.
