About the Role

Our client, a leading innovator in supply chain solutions, is seeking a highly analytical and results-driven Remote Route Optimization Specialist. This is a fully remote position, allowing you to work from anywhere within South Africa. You will be responsible for leveraging advanced software and data analysis techniques to design, implement, and continuously improve the most efficient and cost-effective routes for our client's extensive logistics network. Your expertise will directly impact operational efficiency and customer satisfaction across the Driving & Transport sector.

Key Responsibilities

• Analyze complex transportation data, including delivery points, traffic patterns, vehicle capacities, and time windows, to identify optimal routing solutions.
• Utilize specialized route optimization software (e.g., Route4Me, OptimoRoute, or similar) to create dynamic and static route plans.
• Develop and maintain algorithms and models that enhance route efficiency and minimize fuel consumption, mileage, and driver hours.
• Collaborate with dispatch teams and operations managers (remotely) to ensure effective implementation of optimized routes and provide ongoing support.
• Monitor real-time route performance and make necessary adjustments due to unforeseen circumstances (e.g., traffic incidents, weather).
• Conduct thorough post-route analysis to identify deviations, areas for improvement, and best practices.
• Stay current with the latest advancements in route optimization technology, logistics software, and industry best practices.
• Prepare detailed reports and presentations on route efficiency metrics, cost savings achieved, and recommendations for future enhancements.
• Contribute to the development of long-term logistics strategy by providing data-backed insights on routing and network design.

Requirements

• A minimum of 5 years of experience specifically in route planning and optimization, logistics analysis, or a related field within the Driving & Transport industry.
• Demonstrated proficiency with industry-standard route optimization software and mapping tools (e.g., Google Maps API, HERE Technologies).
• Strong analytical and quantitative skills, with the ability to interpret complex datasets and draw actionable conclusions.
• Excellent understanding of logistics principles, including fleet management, dispatching, and delivery operations.
• Proven ability to work independently and manage projects remotely, with strong self-discipline and time management skills.
• Exceptional problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to identifying and resolving challenges.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to effectively interact with remote teams.
• A Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Operations Research, Computer Science, or a related quantitative field is highly desirable.
• Experience with SQL, Python, or other data analysis tools is a significant plus.
