Job summary

Mass Staffing Projects is recruiting a Senior Rock Engineer in Johannesburg for a large consulting company with international offices. The role requires a PE registration, 15+ years of experience and operative expertise in open pit and underground rock engineering.

You will lead rock mechanics projects, manage design efforts, analyse geotechnical data, and write comprehensive reports while ensuring HSSE compliance and client relationship growth.

Qualifications

• Must have a degree in Rock Mechanics, Engineering, Mining Engineering, Engineering Geology or Geotechnical Engineering.
• MSc will be advantageous.
• Must be registered as Professional Engineer (PE).
• Minimum of 15+ years’ experience in rock engineering, consulting or mining."
• Experience in open pit and/or underground investigation/design is a must.
• Understanding of African mining clients is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Lead rock mechanics projects including support and mine design.
• Open pit mine investigation and design.
• Collate and analyse geotechnical data.
• Prepare geotechnical reports and analyses.
• Provide technical costumer-focused expertise in strata control and rock design.
• Manage consultancy projects in open pit and underground rock engineering.
• Support research, instrumentation, stress measurement, monitoring, modelling and risk management.
• Develop new business and relationships with clients in the unit.
• Develop techniques for solving rock engineering problems; conduct site visits as needed.
• Ensure HSSE compliance and supervise drilling contractors.
• Oversee on-site geotechnical investigations for open pit mines.
• Continue developing project management skills.
• Deliver quality work on time and within budget.
