Job summary

Lexdan Select is assisting an Engineering Consultancy with their search for a Senior Resident Civil Engineer (Roadworks) based in Cape Town. The role focuses on managing roadworks contracts as Employer's Agent, overseeing site teams, and ensuring compliance with specifications and standards.

The ideal candidate holds a BSc/BEng/BTech in Civil Engineering, is ECSA-registered as Pr Eng or Pr Tech Eng, and has at least 10 years of relevant experience including five road rehab or resurfacing

Qualifications

• Degree in Civil Engineering (BSc/BEng/BTech).
• Registered with ECSA as Pr Eng or Pr Tech Eng.
• Minimum 10 years post-qualification civil/roadworks experience.
• Proven experience delivering at least five road rehabilitation or resurfacing projects.
• Strong knowledge of road construction including earthworks, pavements, drainage.
• Experience with GCC, FIDIC or NEC contract administration and QA.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage and administer road construction contracts and act as the Employer's Agent/Engineer's Representative.
• Oversee contractors, subcontractors, and site teams to ensure quality workmanship and compliance with specifications, drawings, and standards.
• Monitor construction progress, review contractor programmes, payment certificates, and claims.
• Coordinate site meetings, prepare progress reports, and liaise with clients, contractors, and stakeholders.
• Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental, and quality requirements.
• Provide technical oversight on asphalt and concrete pavement works, materials engineering, and quality control.
• Maintain professional conduct, integrity, and compliance with ECSA standards and sustainable engineering practices.

Key Requirements

• BSc, BEng, or BTech Degree in Civil Engineering.
• Registered with ECSA as a Professional Engineer (Pr Eng) or Professional Engineering Technologist (Pr Tech Eng).
• Minimum 10 years' post-qualification experience in civil engineering and roadworks projects.
• Proven experience delivering at least five road rehabilitation or resurfacing projects as a Resident Engineer or Engineer's Representative.
• Strong knowledge of road construction, including earthworks, pavements, asphalt surfacing, concrete pavements, and drainage.
• Experience with contract administration (GCC, FIDIC, NEC), quality assurance, contractor management, and health & safety requirements.
