Job summary

Communicate Recruitment is seeking an experienced Roads Design Engineer to join a leading consulting engineering firm in South Africa. You will design road infrastructure from concept through detailed design and provide construction support, liaising with clients and authorities throughout the project lifecycle.

The role requires a minimum of 8 years in road design, professional registration with ECSA, and a relevant Civil Engineering degree.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience in road design and related infrastructure projects.
• Professional registration with ECSA.
• BEng/BSc/BTech in Civil Engineering or related qualification.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop road and transport infrastructure for a variety of projects.
• Undertake preliminary, geometric and detailed road design.
• Develop horizontal and vertical road alignments.
• Design road drainage and stormwater systems.
• Prepare drawings, specifications, reports and tender documentation.
• Perform engineering calculations and develop practical design solutions.
• Coordinate designs with multidisciplinary teams, consultants and contractors.
• Conduct site inspections and provide technical support during construction.
• Review drawings and documentation for quality and compliance.
• Liaise with clients and authorities throughout the project lifecycle.

Job Description:

• Design and develop road and transport infrastructure for a variety of projects
• Undertake preliminary, geometric and detailed road design
• Develop horizontal and vertical road alignments
• Design road drainage, stormwater systems and associated infrastructure
• Prepare engineering drawings, specifications, reports and tender documentation
• Perform engineering calculations and develop practical design solutions
• Coordinate designs with multidisciplinary engineering teams, consultants and contractors
• Conduct site inspections and provide technical support during construction
• Review technical drawings and documentation to ensure design quality and compliance
• Liaise with clients and relevant authorities throughout the project lifecycle
• Ensure designs comply with relevant SANS and municipal/road authority standards

Skills & Experience:

• Manage and deliver road design projects from concept through to detailed design
• Ensure projects are delivered within agreed timelines, budgets and quality standards
• Provide technical guidance and support to junior engineers and technicians
• Coordinate project deliverables with internal and external stakeholders
• Identify and resolve technical design challenges
• Assist with tender preparation, procurement and construction documentation
• Maintain accurate project records and technical documentation
• Minimum 8+ years of experience
