Job summary

Shift Pursuit in Cape Town seeks a Senior Civil Engineer to lead infrastructure projects across Southern Africa, providing technical design leadership and mentoring to the team.

You will oversee detailed design for water/sewer reticulation, stormwater, earthworks and roads, while ensuring compliance with local regulations and client specifications.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering and ECSA registration (PrEng/PrTechEng).
• Minimum 8 years in infrastructure-focused civil engineering with leadership.
• Experience in water/sewer reticulation, stormwater, earthworks and roads.

Introduction:

Our client, a leading specialist engineering consultancy, is seeking an exceptional Senior Civil Engineer to join their Infrastructure team. This is an excellent opportunity to act as a technical design lead, delivering high-quality infrastructure projects across Southern Africa and beyond while mentoring the next generation of engineers.

Key Performance Areas:

• Serve as technical design lead: oversee project delivery, undertake design work, and mentor junior and mid-level staff.
• Lead and contribute to the detailed design of water/sewer reticulation, stormwater infrastructure, earthworks, and roads.
• Ensure full compliance with South African regulations, local authority requirements, and client specifications.
• Review, interrogate, and optimize designs for buildability, cost-effectiveness, and quality.
• Assist with resource allocation, balancing team utilization with staff professional development.
• Engage with stakeholders and manage client liaisons effectively.

Education:

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering (or equivalent).
• Professional registration with ECSA as PrEng or PrTechEng.

Experience:

• Minimum 8 years' progressive civil engineering experience focusing on infrastructure projects.
• Proven track record in leading technical teams or managing projects within consulting engineering environments.
• Advanced design experience in water and sewer reticulation, stormwater management, earthworks, and roads.
• In-depth knowledge of South African engineering standards, SANS codes, and municipal regulatory requirements.
• Experience operating within matrix structures and pooled resource environments.

Key Skills:

• Proficiency in Civil 3D, Wadiso, iDAS, or equivalent modeling tools.
• Strong technical leadership and design optimization capabilities.
• Excellent project management, budgeting, and resource allocation skills.
• Strong technical report writing and documentation abilities.
