Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Renewable Energy Policy Advisor based in Upington, Northern Cape. You will analyze national and provincial energy policies, advise on impacts, and develop actionable recommendations to accelerate South Africa's energy transition.

The role requires 7+ years in energy policy with deep SA policy knowledge, strong research and communication skills, and the ability to engage diverse stakeholders. Presence for key meetings in Upington will be expected.

Qualifications

• Master's degree or PhD in Public Policy, Economics, Law, Environmental Science, Energy Management, or a related field.
• Minimum of 7 years of experience in energy policy analysis, development, or advocacy, with a focus on renewable energy.
• In-depth knowledge of South African energy policy, regulatory frameworks, and market structures.
• Proven ability to conduct rigorous policy analysis and develop practical recommendations.
• Excellent research, analytical, and communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to engage diverse stakeholders including government, industry, civil society.

Responsibilities

• Research, analyze, and evaluate national and provincial policies, regulations, and incentive programs related to renewable energy.
• Develop evidence-based policy recommendations to support growth of solar, wind, and other renewable energy technologies.
• Prepare comprehensive policy briefs, reports, and presentations for government officials, industry stakeholders, and the public.
• Advise senior management and external partners on implications of policy changes and market trends.
• Engage with stakeholders to build consensus and advocate for policy reform.
• Monitor legislative developments and identify opportunities and challenges for the renewable energy sector.
• Conduct economic and market impact assessments of proposed policies.
• Facilitate workshops, seminars, and consultations on renewable energy policy issues.
• Contribute to strategic planning and advocacy campaigns.
• Represent the organization in policy forums and working groups.

Education

Master's degree or PhD in Public Policy, Economics, Law, Environmental Science, Energy Management, or related field

7+ years of experience in energy policy analysis, development, or advocacy
