Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Senior Renewable Energy Policy Analyst for a fully remote role based in South Africa. You will conduct in-depth policy analysis, assess renewable energy frameworks, and develop evidence-based recommendations to accelerate deployment of clean energy technologies.

The ideal candidate has a Master’s or PhD in a policy-related field and 6+ years in energy policy research or advocacy, with strong writing and stakeholder engagement skills.

Qualifications

• Master's degree or PhD in Public Policy, Environmental Science, Economics, Law, or a related field with a strong focus on energy policy.
• Minimum of 6 years of experience in policy analysis, research, or advocacy, specifically within the energy sector.
• Demonstrated expertise in renewable energy technologies, markets, and policy frameworks (e.g., solar, wind, battery storage).
• Strong analytical and quantitative skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and economic models.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a proven ability to convey complex ideas clearly and persuasively.
• Experience in stakeholder engagement and building collaborative relationships.
• Proficiency in policy research methodologies and relevant software tools.
• Self-motivated, highly organized, and able to work independently in a remote setting.
• Knowledge of the South African energy landscape is a significant advantage.

Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive research and analysis on national and international renewable energy policies, regulations, and market trends.
• Evaluate the economic, social, and environmental impacts of various energy policies and initiatives.
• Develop data-driven policy recommendations and strategic advice for government bodies, industry stakeholders, and the public.
• Author high-quality reports, policy briefs, white papers, and presentations on key renewable energy issues.
• Engage with policymakers, industry leaders, academics, and community groups to build consensus and advocate for policy reforms.
• Monitor legislative and regulatory developments affecting the renewable energy sector.
• Contribute to project management, proposal writing, and fundraising efforts.
• Represent the organization at conferences, workshops, and public forums.
• Stay abreast of technological advancements and emerging trends in renewable energy.
