Placements24 in Sandton, Gauteng, seeks a Senior Electrical Design Engineer to lead electrical design for utility-scale solar PV and wind projects, translating requirements into robust concepts and detailed plans.

The role supports collaboration with civil, structural, and mechanical teams in a hybrid setup, with remote work options. A minimum of 7 years in electrical design (4+ in renewables) and familiarity with LV/MV/HV systems is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (Master's or Pr.Eng. advantageous).
• 7+ years in electrical design, with 4+ years in renewable energy (solar PV, wind).
• Experience designing electrical systems for power plants (LV, MV, HV).
• Proficiency with AutoCAD Electrical, ETAP and PVSyst.

Responsibilities

• Lead electrical design of utility-scale solar PV and wind farm projects.
• Develop single-line diagrams, electrical schematics and layouts for power facilities.
• Perform electrical calculations including load flow, short circuit and arc flash studies.
• Select and specify electrical equipment (transformers, switchgear, inverters, cables).
• Design grid interconnection systems meeting utility requirements and grid codes.
