Job summary

Placements24 seeks a Senior Radio Access Network (RAN) Optimization Engineer to join our client in Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape. You will drive performance improvements across 2G/3G/4G/5G, analyze KPIs, and implement optimization strategies to enhance user experience in a hybrid work setup.

You will mentor junior engineers, collaborate with planning and operations, and stay abreast of evolving RAN technologies while delivering detailed performance reports and recommendations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, or a related field.
• Minimum of 6 years of experience in RAN optimization and performance analysis.
• Strong understanding of 2G, 3G, 4G (LTE), and 5G NR technologies and architecture.
• Proficiency with RAN optimization tools (e.g., Actix Analyzer, TEMS, WindCatcher).
• Experience with RF principles, propagation models, and antenna systems.
• Knowledge of parameter tuning and feature optimization in RAN.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and data interpretation skills.
• Strong communication and report-writing skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Familiarity with ATAM, Nemo Outdoor/Analyze, or similar tools is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Analyze RAN performance data to identify areas for improvement in KPIs.
• Develop and implement optimization strategies for 2G, 3G, 4G, and 5G networks.
• Monitor network performance using specialized tools and dashboards.
• Troubleshoot and resolve RAN-related issues, including interference, coverage gaps, and capacity constraints.
• Perform drive tests and post-processing analysis to evaluate network quality.
• Collaborate with network planning and operations teams to implement optimization changes.
• Prepare detailed reports on network performance, optimization activities, and recommendations.
• Stay current with latest RAN technologies, features, and optimization techniques.
• Support new feature introductions and network upgrades.
• Mentor junior RAN engineers and share technical expertise.
