Qualifications

• Must be a Trade Tested Electrician with ORHVS certification.
• Minimum 5 years’ electrical maintenance experience in the energy sector.
• Strong knowledge of Solar PV systems and Balance of System equipment.
• Experience on utility-scale renewable energy projects.
• Valid driver’s licence is required.

Responsibilities

• Oversee third-party O&M activities across Solar PV and BOS equipment.
• Conduct scheduled inspections and QA/QC of maintenance work.
• Ensure preventive and corrective maintenance meet contractual timelines.
• Monitor substations, inverters, switchgear, trackers, cabling and related electrical gear.
• Coordinate corrective actions with engineering teams and contractors.

Senior PV Technician (O&M Oversight)

Upington, Northern Cape | Permanent | Site-Based

A leading renewable energy operator is looking for an experienced Senior PV Technician to join its operations team in Upington.

This is a senior technical oversight role where you will be responsible for ensuring that third-party O&M contractors deliver maintenance activities safely, on time, and in accordance with OEM, regulatory, and operational standards. You will play a key role in maintaining the performance and reliability of Solar PV equipment.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee and witness third-party O&M contractor activities across Solar PV and BOS equipment
• Conduct scheduled inspections and QA/QC assessments of maintenance work
• Ensure preventive and corrective maintenance is completed within contractual timelines
• Monitor the condition and performance of substations, inverters, switchgear, trackers, cabling, and associated electrical infrastructure
• Investigate technical issues and coordinate corrective actions with engineering teams and contractors
• Manage work orders through a CMMS system and maintain accurate maintenance records
• Ensure compliance with ORHVS, NRS standards, and all relevant health, safety, and electrical regulations
• Perform LV switching activities where required in accordance with approved procedures

Minimum Requirements

• Trade Tested Electrician
• ORHVS Certified
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in electrical maintenance within the energy sector
• Strong knowledge of Solar PV systems and Balance of System equipment
• Experience working on utility-scale renewable energy projects
• Valid driver’s licence

Advantageous

• N6 or National Higher Diploma in Electrical Engineering
• 7+ years’ relevant experience
• Substation and high-voltage electrical equipment experience
• Solar PV certification (PV Green Card)
• GMR2(7) appointment experience
• Knowledge of SCADA
