O&M Technician – South Africa
Reporting to: O&M Plant Manager
Location: Klerksdorp, North West, South Africa
Position Purpose
The O&M Technician is responsible for the Doornhoek PV project, specifically ensuring that the facility operates efficiently.
Responsibilities
- Assist the Plant Manager to supervise all operational and maintenance activities of the PV plant.
- Review, develop and ensure implementation of SOPs to ensure safe operation of machinery and the safety of personnel.
- Organize and coordinate major corrective and preventative maintenance activities with EPC and OEMs.
- Compile daily, weekly and monthly performance reports.
- Monitor and analyze plant’s performance KPIs and suggest improvement strategies where required.
- Ensure operation and maintenance are carried out in line with the O&M contract.
- Lead and participate in fault-finding, conduct root cause analysis and develop technical reports on findings and recommendations.
- Authorize, permit and supervise MV/HV switching operations for maintenance, operation and inspection purposes.
- Perform 33/132 kV switching activities as per the ORHVS requirements.
- Ensure all incidents are duly reported, investigated and root causes are analysed to prevent reoccurrence.
Qualifications & Experience
- National Diploma in Electrical Engineering or N3 to N6 and Trade Test
- Valid ORHVS certificate
- At least 5 years’ experience in the renewable energy industry, preferably in PV O&M
- At least 3 years’ experience as an O&M Technician with switching experience
- Good understanding of ORHVS and in possession of a valid ORHVS certificate
- Previous experience as an O&M Technician is preferable
- Experience in the operation and maintenance of substation HV/MV equipment
- Experience in utilisation of computerised maintenance management systems
- Hands‑on experience with troubleshooting and replacing PV system equipment from PV modules, combiner boxes, inverters, etc.

- Knowledgeable on PV solar technologies
- Knowledgeable on operation and maintenance of solar equipment/components e.g. PV modules, tracker systems, inverters and transformers etc.
- Conducting incident investigation and root cause analysis
- Knowledgeable in the OHS Act and its regulations
- Ability to read engineering drawings
