Role Overview
The O&M Site Manager is responsible for overseeing daily operations, maintenance activities, safety compliance, troubleshooting, and performance optimisation of the solar PV plant. This role ensures plant reliability, manages on-site teams, and liaises with internal and external stakeholders to maintain high operational standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead on-site operations, maintenance, troubleshooting, and performance recovery.
- Conduct technical assessments, specialized maintenance, and commissioning/start-up activities.
- Provide on-site and remote fault analysis and implement recovery solutions.
- Produce technical reports, documentation, and evidence for claims and audits.
- Support development and continuous improvement of maintenance systems and processes.
- Deliver technical training, workshops, and knowledge transfer to the O&M team.
- Ensure compliance with OHS Act requirements, including GMR 2(1) responsibilities.
- Chair SHE Committee meetings; endorse incident investigation findings.
- Authorize SHE Representatives, First Aiders, and GMR 2(7) appointments.
- Liaise with OEMs, service providers, utilities, customers, and internal departments.
- Participate in reliability studies, failure analyses, process audits, and performance monitoring.
Qualifications & Experience
- Degree/Master’s in Electrical, Electronics, Automation or relevant Engineering field.
- Government Certificate of Competency (GCC – Factories) – mandatory.
- Experience with GMR 2(1) and GMR 2(7) appointments under OHSA.
- 5+ years in Renewable Energy / Solar PV O&M / Power Plants (preferred).
- Experience with commissioning, maintenance, and troubleshooting of PV plants.
- Strong knowledge of electronics, automation, SCADA systems, and remote-control systems.
- Understanding of data acquisition & communication systems (advantageous).
- Advanced MS Office and reporting software skills.
- Fluent in English (written & verbal).
- Valid South African driver’s license.
- Must be fit to work on site (medical fitness certificate required).
