Job summary

Department of Health in Krugersdorp seeks a Professional Nurse with Psychiatry and a post-basic qualification to lead and deputize for Nursing Managers. The role requires SANC registration, extensive psychiatric nursing experience, and strong leadership and project management abilities.

Responsibilities include after-hours coverage, policy implementation, and driving quality care across units, in line with national strategies and regulations.

Qualifications

• Registration with South African Nursing Council as a Professional Nurse with Psychiatry
• Post basic qualification in Advanced Psychiatric Nursing Science or PG Mental Health
• Diploma/degree in Nursing Administration/Health Services Management advantageous
• Minimum 7 years nursing experience after registration in General Nursing
• At least 3 years in management of psychiatric patients after advanced qualification
• Current SANC registration letter/proof
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, project management and leadership skills
• Knowledge of Mental Health Care Act, PFMA, Regulations, Norms and Standards, National Nursing Strategy 2020/21-2025/26
• Innovative, emotionally intelligent and collaborative
• Computer literacy

Responsibilities

• Deputize for Nursing Managers and cover after hours, including nights, weekends and holidays
• Implement PMDS, disciplinary code, leave management, and SCM procedures
• Work day shift, night duty, weekends and public holidays
• Manage ward absenteeism and rotate across units
• Coordinate quality psychiatric care per care plan and best practice
• Drive National Nursing Strategy implementation
• Participate in hospital committees, training and mentoring of junior nurses
• Lead changes to improve safe, efficient patient care
