Job summary

Department of Health in Krugersdorp seeks a Professional Nurse with Psychiatry and a post-basic qualification to lead and deputize for Nursing Managers. The role requires SANC registration, extensive psychiatric nursing experience, and strong leadership and project management abilities.

Qualifications

• Registration with South African Nursing Council as a Professional Nurse with Psychiatry

• Minimum 7 years nursing experience after registration in General Nursing
• At least 3 years in management of psychiatric patients after advanced qualification
• Current SANC registration letter/proof
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, project management and leadership skills
• Knowledge of Mental Health Care Act, PFMA, Regulations, Norms and Standards, National Nursing Strategy 2020/21-2025/26

Responsibilities

• Deputize for Nursing Managers and cover after hours, including nights, weekends and holidays

• Package : R720 819.00 – R809 313.00 per annum (plus benefits)

Requirements :

• Appropriate Diploma/Degree in Nursing or equivalent qualification that allows registration with South African Nursing Council as a Professional Nurse with Psychiatry and must have a post basic qualification with a duration of at least one year in Advanced Psychiatric Nursing Science or Post Graduate Mental Health qualification accredited with SANC at a Diploma or Degree level. A diploma/degree in Nursing Administration/ Health Services Management will be an added advantage. A minimum of 7 years appropriate/recognisable experience in nursing after registration as a Professional Nurse with SANC in General Nursing. At least 3 years of the period above must be appropriate/recognisable experience in the Management of Psychiatric patients after obtaining the advanced psychiatric qualification. Proof of current registration with SANC. Good interpersonal, communication, project management and leadership skills. Knowledge of the Mental Health Care Act, PFMA, Public Sector Regulations, Regulated Norms and Standards and other legislative Framework, National Nursing Strategy 2020/21-2025/26. Have Innovative, emotional intelligence and collaborative skills. Computer literacy.

Duties :

• Deputize for Nursing Managers in their absence and take charge of the hospital after hours, at night, during weekends and public holidays. Demonstrate basic understanding of Human Resource Policies and practices through effective implementation of PMDS, Disciplinary Code, leave management and Supply Chain Management Procedures. The Operational Manager will work day shift, night duty, weekend and public holidays. Manage absenteeism in the ward. Rotate in different units and drive change for effective and efficient service delivery. Ensure effective and efficient coordination and integration of quality specialised nursing care and management of complex psychiatric cases through implementation of advanced procedures and nursing interventions that are in accordance with the development of care plan and best practice standards. Drive the implementation of the National Nursing Strategy. Initiate change management and participate in hospital committees. Lead the team in the prevention of Patient Safety incidents and reduce the occurrence of incidents. Participate in the hospital committees, training, coaching and mentoring of junior nurses.
