Job summary

Qualifications

• Registration with HPCSA as Medical Specialist: Psychiatry.
• Minimum five years’ experience in Psychiatry as a Medical Specialist.
• Computer literacy (MS Word, MS Excel, PowerPoint).
• Sound knowledge of government regulations, policies and acts.
• Ability to interpret and implement policies.
• Project management skills.
• Teambuilding, people and interpersonal relations skills.
• Communication skills (verbal and written).
• Experience in administration, finance, education and research.
• Registering as a joint appointee with the University of the Witwatersrand upon appointment.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate, manage and administer efficient and cost-effective psychiatric services in the General Psychiatry Unit at the institution.
• Manage human resources in the clinical unit, including CSTS and support staff.
• Oversee management of financial and other resources allocated to the clinical department.
• Oversee governance in the department, clinical governance and quality assurance.
• Provide 24-hour patient care coordination and stakeholder liaison (University, SAPS, DoJ, GDoH).
• Participate in policies and planning with the Hospital and NDoH.
• Maintain relationships with other health facilities in Sterkfontein Hospital’s catchment.
• Oversee teaching and training in psychiatry for undergrad/postgrad/subspecialties.
• Engage in governance structures and university academic management activities.
