Placements24 is seeking a Senior Project Manager to oversee major capital projects in Bloemfontein, Free State. You will lead planning, design, construction, commissioning and handover, ensuring on-time delivery within budget.

You will manage cross-functional teams of engineers, contractors and consultants, maintain safety and quality standards, and drive risk management, procurement, and stakeholder engagement across the operation.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of PM experience with large capital projects (> $20M).
• Experience with MS Project and Primavera.
• Strong leadership, communication and interpersonal skills.
• Willingness to travel within Free State; valid driver's license.

About the Role

Our client, a leading diversified industrial group, is seeking a highly skilled Senior Project Manager to oversee major capital projects within their operations in Bloemfontein, Free State . This role is crucial for the successful planning, execution, and delivery of significant infrastructure and facility development initiatives. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in managing large-scale capital expenditures, a thorough understanding of engineering principles, and a proven ability to lead cross-functional teams. This position requires a proactive and results-oriented individual who can thrive in a challenging, fast-paced environment. The role offers a blend of strategic oversight and hands‑on management of projects vital to our client's growth and operational efficiency in the Free State region.

Key Responsibilities

Manage the complete lifecycle of capital projects from initiation, feasibility studies, and design through to construction, commissioning, and handover. Develop detailed project plans, including scope, budget, schedule, resource requirements, and risk management strategies. Lead and coordinate multidisciplinary project teams, including engineers, contractors, and consultants. Ensure all projects are delivered in accordance with quality standards, safety regulations, and environmental requirements. Manage project finances, including budget control, forecasting, and cost reporting, ensuring projects remain within financial constraints. Facilitate effective communication and stakeholder engagement with internal departments and external partners in Bloemfontein . Oversee procurement processes, contract negotiations, and vendor management. Monitor project progress, identify potential risks and issues, and implement timely corrective actions. Ensure compliance with all applicable legal and regulatory frameworks. Provide leadership and mentorship to junior project management staff.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Civil, Electrical) or a related technical field. A minimum of 8 years of experience in project management, specifically managing large capital projects ($>20 million budget). Proven track record of successfully delivering complex industrial or infrastructure projects. Strong knowledge of project management principles, methodologies, and tools (e.g., MS Project, Primavera). Excellent leadership, communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills. Familiarity with South African building codes, safety standards, and environmental regulations. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize effectively. Experience in risk assessment and mitigation planning. Proficiency in contract management and administration. Must possess a valid driver's license and be willing to travel within the Free State province as required.
