Job summary

Placements24 in Mossel Bay, Western Cape, is seeking a Process Safety Engineer to lead PSM programs, PHAs, HAZOP/LOPA/FMEA, and the Mechanical Integrity program for critical equipment. You will investigate incidents, ensure regulatory compliance, and drive a strong safety culture on site.

The candidate should hold a Chemical or Mechanical Engineering degree with 6+ years in process safety within Oil & Gas, plus CSP/CIH certification is advantageous and strong risk assessment skills are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
• 6+ years of experience in process safety engineering in Oil & Gas.
• Strong knowledge of PSM elements (e.g., OSHA, COMAH).

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and manage Process Safety Management (PSM) programs.
• Conduct PHAs (HAZOP, LOPA, FMEA) and risk assessments.
• Oversee Mechanical Integrity (MI) program for critical equipment.
• Investigate incidents and near misses, determine root causes and corrective actions.
• Ensure compliance with process safety regulations and industry standards.
• Deliver process safety training to staff and operators.
• Participate in Management of Change (MOC) safety reviews.
• Monitor KPIs for process safety and report performance.
• Liaise with regulatory agencies and maintain permits.
