Placements24 is seeking a Senior Process Safety Engineer to join its safety team in Bloemfontein. You will lead PHAs, develop PSM programs, and drive incident investigations to improve safety performance across operations.

The role requires deep knowledge of PSM, hazard identification, and risk assessment, with SIS experience and CSP being highly desirable. The position is based in Bloemfontein, with options for relocation support and a focus on safety culture.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
• Minimum of 7 years of experience in process safety engineering, preferably within the chemical industry.
• In-depth knowledge of PSM principles, hazard identification techniques, and risk assessment methodologies.
• Experience with safety instrumented systems (SIS) and functional safety standards (e.g., IEC 61511).
• Strong understanding of relevant safety regulations and industry standards.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to lead and influence cross-functional teams.
• Certification such as CSP (Certified Safety Professional) or equivalent is highly desirable.
• Willingness to work and reside in Bloemfontein, Free State.

Responsibilities

• Lead and participate in Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs) such as HAZOP, LOPA, and FMEA.
• Develop, implement, and maintain Process Safety Management (PSM) programs.
• Conduct incident investigations, root cause analyses, and recommend corrective actions.
• Ensure compliance with relevant safety legislation, standards, and best practices.
• Develop and deliver process safety training to employees at all levels.
• Oversee the Management of Change (MOC) process for all modifications to processes and equipment.
• Perform safety reviews for new projects and modifications to existing facilities.
• Monitor and audit safety performance, identifying areas for improvement.
• Stay current with advancements in process safety technology and methodologies.
• Collaborate with engineering, operations, and maintenance teams to integrate safety into all aspects of work.
