Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Lead Process Safety Engineer for a major Oil & Gas facility in Tembisa, Gauteng, SA. The role focuses on developing, implementing and overseeing process safety management systems to ensure safety across operations.

You will lead hazard analyses (HAZOP, LOPA, FMEA), manage MOC, conduct SIL assessments, and drive a proactive safety culture in a hybrid work arrangement, with emphasis on regulatory compliance and workforce protection.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or related discipline.
• 7+ years in process safety engineering, especially Oil & Gas.
• Experience leading PHAs (HAZOP, LOPA).
• Knowledge of PSM elements and standards (OSHA PSM, CCPS).
• SIL assessment and safeguarding experience.
• Strong understanding of SA safety regulations and compliance.
• Excellent leadership and communication skills.
• Ability to thrive in a hybrid work environment.
• Proficiency with relevant safety software and tools.

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and manage the Process Safety Management (PSM) program.
• Conduct PHAs such as HAZOP, LOPA, and FMEA; ensure recommendations are actioned.
• Oversee the MOC process to review safety implications of changes.
• Develop and maintain Safety Integrity Level (SIL) assessments and LOPs.
• Investigate process safety incidents and implement corrective actions.
• Develop and deliver process safety training for site personnel.
• Conduct regular safety audits and inspections; ensure compliance.
• Liaise with regulatory bodies to ensure compliance with safety laws.
• Promote a strong safety culture and industry best practices.
• Stay updated on trends in process safety engineering.
