Job summary

Placements24 seeks a Senior Process Safety Specialist for a Soweto, Gauteng-based role within the Oil & Gas sector. You will lead process safety management, oversee risk assessments, and drive continuous safety improvements across operations.

Apply HAZOP, LOPA, and FMEA methods; develop procedures; manage MOC; and train teams while monitoring KPIs and regulatory compliance. A chemical/mechanical engineering degree and 7–9 years of relevant experience are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related technical discipline.
• 7–9+ years of progressive experience in process safety engineering within Oil & Gas or petrochemical industries.
• Proficient in PHA methodologies (HAZOP, LOPA, FMEA) and PSM principles.

Responsibilities

• Lead PHAs (HAZOP, What-If, FMEA) and related hazard analyses.
• Develop, implement, and maintain elements of the Process Safety Management (PSM) system.
• Conduct LOPA to ensure adequate safety barriers are in place.
• Perform risk assessments and QRAs to identify and prioritize hazards.
• Investigate process safety incidents and deviations to determine root causes.
• Oversee the MOC process ensuring safety implications are evaluated.
• Develop and deliver training on process safety methodologies.
• Monitor KPI trends and prepare safety reports for management.
• Stay updated on evolving process safety regulations and standards.
