Job summary

Placements24 in East London, Eastern Cape, seeks an experienced Senior Process Engineer to lead the design and optimization of complex petrochemical processes, covering conceptual design through commissioning to ensure safety and efficiency. Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or related discipline.
• Minimum 8 years of experience in process engineering, preferably within the petrochemical or chemical industry.
• Strong proficiency in process simulation software and P&ID development.
• In-depth knowledge of unit operations, thermodynamics, and fluid mechanics.
• Experience with process safety management (PSM) principles and hazard analysis techniques.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team.
• Experience in project execution, from design to commissioning.
• Familiarity with international codes and standards (e.g., API, ASME).

Responsibilities

• Lead process design activities for new petrochemical plants and modifications to existing facilities.
• Develop process flow diagrams (PFDs) and piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs).
• Perform process simulations and modeling using industry-standard software (e.g., Aspen Plus, HYSYS).
• Conduct process hazard analyses (PHAs), including HAZOP studies, to ensure safety.
• Specify process equipment, including reactors, columns, heat exchangers, and pumps.
• Troubleshoot process issues and develop solutions to optimize performance and efficiency.
• Provide technical support during the construction, commissioning, and start-up phases.
• Ensure compliance with relevant engineering standards, codes, and regulations.
• Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary engineering teams, operations, and project management.
