Responsibilities

• Develop, optimize, and troubleshoot chemical processes to maximize yield and minimize waste.
• Perform process simulations and modeling to evaluate changes and improvements.
• Design and specify new process equipment and modifications, ensuring safety and integrity.
• Conduct PHAs and HAZOP studies to identify and mitigate risks.
• Provide technical support to operations and maintenance and prepare technical reports.

About the Role

Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Process Engineer to join their dynamic team in Port Elizabeth , focusing on the petrochemical energy sector . In this role, you will be responsible for optimizing existing processes, troubleshooting operational issues, and contributing to the design of new process units to enhance efficiency, safety, and environmental performance. This is a hands-on position requiring deep technical expertise and a proactive approach to problem-solving within a challenging industrial environment. The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining and improving the operational excellence of critical petrochemical facilities.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, optimize, and troubleshoot complex chemical processes within the petrochemical industry to maximize yield and minimize waste.
• Perform process simulations and modeling using industry-standard software to evaluate process changes and identify areas for improvement.
• Design and specify new process equipment and modifications to existing plant systems, ensuring safety and operational integrity.
• Conduct Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs) and HAZOP studies to identify and mitigate potential risks.
• Provide technical support to operations and maintenance teams, addressing immediate process-related challenges.
• Prepare technical reports, process documentation, and recommendations for management decision-making.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or a related discipline.
• A minimum of 8 years of experience in process engineering, with a strong background in the petrochemical or oil and gas industry.
• Proficiency in process simulation software such as Aspen HYSYS, Aspen Plus, or PRO/II.
• Thorough understanding of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, and mass transfer principles.
• Experience with process safety management (PSM) and environmental regulations.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work effectively under pressure in an operational setting in Port Elizabeth .
