Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Senior Process Development Scientist to lead optimization and scale-up of manufacturing processes for novel chemical entities at their Soweto facility. The role focuses on translating lab-scale work into robust pilot and commercial production.

You will design and execute development studies, troubleshoot manufacturing issues, and implement process improvements in a regulated environment, driving technology transfer and cost efficiency.

Qualifications

• MSc or PhD in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or a related field.
• Minimum of 6 years of experience in process development and scale-up in the chemical or pharmaceutical industry.
• Strong understanding of reaction kinetics, thermodynamics, and mass transfer principles.
• Proficiency in process modeling, statistical analysis, and Design of Experiments (DoE).
• Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to manage multiple projects in a dynamic environment.

Responsibilities

• Lead process development studies for new chemical entities, focusing on safety, efficiency, and yield.
• Optimize reaction conditions, work-up procedures, and purification methods for large-scale manufacturing.
• Conduct process hazard analyses and implement appropriate safety measures.
• Develop and validate analytical methods to monitor process performance and product quality.
• Collaborate with manufacturing, engineering, and quality assurance teams to ensure successful technology transfer and scale-up.
