Placements24 seeks a skilled Process Development Chemist for its pharmaceutical manufacturing facility in Rustenburg. The role focuses on optimizing and scaling chemical processes for APIs, ensuring robust, reproducible methods as production shifts from lab to commercial scale.

The candidate will work to improve yields, purity, and safety, collaborating with engineering and manufacturing teams to implement technology transfer and cost efficiencies. Relocation support may be available.

Qualifications

• Master's or PhD in Organic Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or related field.
• 3–5 years of pharma process development or scale-up experience.
• Strong knowledge of organic synthesis and process chemistry.
• Experience with process safety evaluations and hazard analysis.
• Proficiency in analytical techniques for process monitoring.
• Excellent problem-solving and systematic optimization abilities.

Responsibilities

• Develop, optimize, and validate chemical processes for API synthesis focusing on yield, purity, and scalability.
• Conduct experiments to understand reaction kinetics and establish control strategies.
• Troubleshoot process-related issues during pilot and commercial manufacturing.
• Scale up laboratory processes to pilot and commercial scales with robustness and safety.
• Collaborate with engineering and manufacturing teams for process improvements and technology transfer.
• Generate comprehensive process development reports including hazard assessments and control strategies.
