Job summary

Placements24 is seeking an experienced Senior Process Development Scientist to join our client’s R&D team in Mahikeng. You will develop and optimize manufacturing processes for novel chemical entities and pharmaceutical products, translating lab-scale methods into robust, cost-effective production routes.

You will work closely with chemists, engineers, and manufacturing personnel to transfer technology while ensuring quality and regulatory standards.

Qualifications

• PhD or MSc in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience in process chemistry or process development within the pharmaceutical or fine chemical industry.
• Strong understanding of organic synthesis, reaction kinetics, thermodynamics, and chemical engineering principles.
• Experience with process scale-up, technology transfer, and manufacturing operations.
• Proficiency in analytical techniques for process monitoring and product characterization.
• Excellent problem-solving, project management, and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop and optimize chemical synthesis and purification processes for target molecules, focusing on yield, purity, and efficiency.
• Conduct process safety assessments and identify potential hazards, implementing mitigation strategies.
• Lead scale-up activities from laboratory bench to pilot plant and commercial manufacturing scales.
• Utilize Design of Experiments (DoE) and other statistical tools to optimize process parameters and understand critical process variables.
• Troubleshoot process issues and implement corrective actions to ensure consistent product quality and yield.
