Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Senior Process Chemist for a leading chemical manufacturer in Richards Bay, SA. You will optimize chemical synthesis routes, scale up processes from lab to pilot and commercial scales, and ensure safety and quality in manufacturing operations.

The role requires a strong background in organic chemistry or process chemistry, with 5+ years in process development and proficiency with analytical techniques (HPLC, GC, MS, NMR).

Qualifications

• M.Sc. or Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry, Process Chemistry, or Chemical Engineering.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in process development and scale-up of chemical synthesis.
• Strong understanding of organic reaction mechanisms, kinetics, and thermodynamics.
• Experience with process safety evaluations and hazard assessment methodologies.
• Proficiency in analytical techniques such as HPLC, GC, MS, and NMR for process monitoring and product analysis.

Responsibilities

• Develop, optimize, and scale-up chemical synthesis processes from laboratory to pilot and commercial scales.
• Conduct process hazard analyses (PHAs) and implement safety protocols to ensure a safe working environment.
• Troubleshoot and resolve process-related issues to maintain production efficiency and product quality.
• Perform impurity profiling and develop analytical methods for process monitoring and product characterization.
• Collaborate with engineering and production teams to ensure seamless technology transfer and implementation.
• Research and implement new synthetic methodologies and process technologies to improve efficiency and sustainability.
