Placements24 seeks a Senior Process Chemist to advance API synthesis and scale-up in a pharmaceutical R&D setting. You will translate laboratory methods into scalable, cost-effective manufacturing processes while collaborating across analytical, formulation, and manufacturing teams.

The role involves developing robust processes, ensuring regulatory compliance, and contributing to life-saving medicines in a hybrid work environment in Mahikeng.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. or Master’s degree in Organic Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in process chemistry or pharmaceutical development, focusing on API synthesis.
• Proven expertise in synthetic organic chemistry, process optimization, and scale-up challenges.
• Hands-on experience with analytical techniques for characterization and impurity analysis.
• Familiarity with GMP and ICH guidelines for pharmaceutical manufacturing.
• Excellent problem-solving skills, strong communication abilities, and ability to work in a hybrid team environment.

Responsibilities

• Develop and optimize synthetic routes for APIs and key intermediates with emphasis on yield, purity, safety, and scalability.
• Conduct R&D studies including reaction kinetics, impurity profiling, and crystallization development.
• Scale-up processes from laboratory to pilot and manufacturing scales with successful tech transfer.
• Utilize PAT and statistical methods to monitor and control processes.
• Troubleshoot process-related issues and implement corrective actions for product quality and production efficiency.
• Collaborate with analytical chemists, formulation scientists, and manufacturing personnel to ensure project progression.
• Author and review process descriptions, validation reports, and regulatory documentation.
