Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Senior Process Chemical Engineer in Johannesburg, Gauteng to optimize and develop complex chemical processes. The role emphasizes safety, efficiency, and sustainability across large-scale operations.

You will design, simulate, and improve processes, lead technical teams, and ensure compliance with EH&S regulations while collaborating with R&D, operations, and project management.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemical Engineering or a related discipline.
• 8+ years of progressive experience in process engineering with a focus on petrochemicals.
• Experience with process simulation software (Aspen Plus, HYSYS).
• Strong knowledge of process safety management (PSM).
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Experience in project management and leading technical teams is desirable.
• Adaptability to a hybrid work environment.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and optimize chemical processes from conceptualization to implementation.
• Conduct process simulations and modeling to predict performance and identify improvements.
• Perform PHAs and implement safety protocols.
• Troubleshoot and resolve operational issues to maintain stability and efficiency.
• Collaborate with R&D, operations, and project management teams.
• Ensure compliance with environmental, health, and safety regulations.
• Mentor junior engineering staff and foster continuous learning.
• Develop and review technical documentation including P&IDs and manuals.
• Evaluate and recommend new technologies and equipment to enhance capabilities.
