Placements24 in Kimberley, Northern Cape, is seeking a Senior Power Systems Protection Engineer to design, implement, and maintain protection schemes for high‑voltage networks. This role focuses on safety, reliability, and grid stability through robust protection system engineering.

You will collaborate with project engineers and field technicians, perform fault and coordination studies, select relays and transformers, and develop protection philosophy documents and testing procedures.

Qualifications

• Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
• Minimum 6 years of experience in power system protection engineering.
• Deep knowledge of protective relaying, digital relays, and protection schemes.
• Experience with substation design and fieldwork is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and commission protection schemes for transmission and distribution substations.
• Perform fault studies, coordination studies, and arc flash hazard analyses.
• Select protective relays, current transformers, voltage transformers, and related equipment.
• Develop protection philosophy documents, settings files, and testing procedures.
• Review engineering designs and construction drawings related to protection systems.
• Troubleshoot and resolve protection system issues in the field.
• Ensure compliance with IEC, IEEE standards and company procedures.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior protection engineers.
• Participate in evaluating new protection technologies.
• Contribute to maintenance and updating of protection system documentation.
