Job summary

Placements24 seeks a Senior Process Engineer to enhance and optimize petrochemical processes at a facility near Welkom in the Free State. The role focuses on efficiency, safety, and environmental compliance, with responsibilities spanning design, development, and troubleshooting of chemical processes.

You will work to improve yields, reduce energy use, ensure product quality, and collaborate with operations and maintenance teams to deliver safe, compliant processes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or a related field.
• A minimum of 7 years of experience in process engineering within the petrochemical or Oil & Gas industry.
• Proficiency in process simulation software (e.g., Aspen Plus, HYSYS) and P&ID development.
• Strong understanding of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and mass transfer principles.
• Experience with process safety management (PSM) and HAZOP studies.
• Ability to work effectively on-site in the Welkom area, demonstrating excellent communication and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

• Design, evaluate, and modify process equipment and systems to improve operational performance and safety.
• Conduct process hazard analyses (PHAs) and implement recommendations to mitigate risks.
• Develop process simulation models to test design modifications and optimize operating conditions.
• Troubleshoot process upsets and equipment failures, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant environmental regulations and company HSE policies.
• Collaborate with project engineers on capital projects, providing process expertise from conceptual design through to commissioning.
