Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Senior Operations Manager to lead the distribution network in Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal. The role requires a proven track record in supply chain, logistics, and team leadership within retail or distribution environments, and blends remote work with essential on-site presence.

You will drive efficiency, optimize workflows, manage budgets, KPIs, and vendor relationships, and mentor a high-performing team to achieve strategic targets in a dynamic hybrid work setting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or related field.
• Minimum 8 years of progressive experience in operations management, preferably in retail or distribution.
• Proven experience in managing large teams and complex operational environments.
• Strong understanding of WMS and supply chain technologies.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement strategic operational plans to enhance efficiency and reduce costs.
• Oversee daily operations including inventory management, warehousing, transportation, and order fulfillment.
• Lead and develop a high-performing operations team with a culture of accountability.
• Monitor KPIs and implement corrective actions to meet targets.
• Manage budgets, resources, and vendor relationships for cost-effectiveness and service quality.
• Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
• Collaborate with procurement, sales, and customer service to align strategies.
• Drive process improvements and best practices in logistics and supply chain.
• Optimize warehouse space and equipment utilization.
• Report on operational performance to senior management.
