Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Senior Open Pit Mining Engineer for a mining client in Mahikeng, North West. This role focuses on planning, design, and optimization of open pit operations, turning geological data into practical mine plans and schedules to enhance safety, efficiency and profitability.

You will mentor juniors, work with geologists and operations teams, and drive feasibility studies and risk analyses. Proficiency in Deswik, Vulcan, Surpac and a steadfast safety mindset are essential.

Qualifications

• BSc/BEng in Mining Engineering or related field.
• 7+ years in open pit mine engineering and planning.
• Proficiency in Deswik, Vulcan, Surpac.
• Strong understanding of open pit mining methods and equipment.
• Proven ability to develop practical and efficient production schedules.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills with diverse teams.
• Experience in geomechanical assessments and slope stability is a plus.
• Professional registration with ECSA or equivalent desired.
• Commitment to safety and environmental stewardship.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain short-, mid-, and long-term open pit plans and schedules.
• Use Deswik, Vulcan, Surpac to optimize pit designs and sequencing.
• Collaborate with geologists to utilize mineable reserves effectively.
• Optimize drilling, blasting, loading, and hauling operations.
• Conduct feasibility studies, economic evaluations, and sensitivity analyses.
• Monitor performance and implement corrective actions.
• Ensure health, safety, environmental, and regulatory compliance.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers.
