Placements24 is seeking a Senior Mine Geotechnical Engineer to lead geotechnical risk management, investigations, and design across mining projects in Sandton. You will evaluate rock mass properties, groundwater and seismic data, and support underground and open-pit operations.

The role requires senior expertise, collaboration with planning and operations, and a track record in innovative monitoring and design solutions within mining environments.

Qualifications

• Master's degree or PhD in Geotechnical Engineering, Mining Engineering, or related discipline.
• 8+ years of relevant experience in mine geotechnical engineering.
• Proven expertise in underground and open-pit geotechnical analysis and design.
• Proficiency with geotechnical software packages (Rocscience, FLAC, Map3D).

Responsibilities

• Conduct detailed geotechnical investigations and assessments for mine design and operations.
• Analyze rock mass characteristics, groundwater conditions, and seismic data.
• Develop and implement ground support design and monitoring programs for underground mines.
• Perform stability analyses for open-pit slopes and waste dumps.
• Provide expert geotechnical advice to mine planning, engineering, and operations teams.
• Develop and manage geotechnical monitoring instrumentation and data acquisition systems.
• Assess and mitigate geotechnical risks to ensure mine safety and operational continuity.
• Prepare detailed geotechnical reports, specs, and design documents.
• Stay current with advancements in geotechnical engineering principles and mining technologies.
• Collaborate with external consultants and regulatory bodies on geotechnical matters.
