Placements24 is seeking a Senior Metallurgist for operations near Benoni in Gauteng. The role focuses on optimizing mineral processing circuits, troubleshooting, and driving improvements to recoveries and costs while ensuring environmental compliance.

You will work with plant operations and R&D teams to implement metallurgical test work, analyze data, and develop innovative solutions in a hybrid work setting.

Qualifications

• Master's degree or PhD in Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering, or related field.
• 7+ years of mineral processing/metallurgy experience in mining.
• Strong understanding of metallurgical principles, unit operations, and process simulation.
• Experience with analytical techniques and laboratory testing procedures.
• Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and report-writing skills.
• Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams in a hybrid work environment.

Responsibilities

• Optimize and troubleshoot mineral processing circuits (crushing, grinding, flotation, leaching).
• Develop and implement metallurgical test programs to evaluate new processing technologies.
• Analyze process data to identify improvements in recovery, grade, and cost efficiency.
• Provide technical expertise and support to plant operations personnel.
• Ensure safety and environmental compliance in metallurgical activities.
• Prepare detailed reports on process performance, test results, and recommendations.
• Stay updated on developments in extractive metallurgy.
